Ford Fusion

The Ford Fusion: A Sporty, Family-Friendly Sedan

Since the Ford Fusion was introduced to the public in 2006, it has earned numerous awards and accolades for its quality and performance. With its handsome styling, spacious interior, and dynamic performance, the Fusion appeals to a wide range of drivers. The Fusion is not only comfortable and family-friendly, it is also sporty and sophisticated with an affordable price tag.

The Early Days of the Ford Fusion

With its debut in 2006, the Fusion was initially offered with front-wheel drive in three trim levels: S, SE, and SEL. Providing 160 hp, the Fusion was powered by a standard 2.3L 4-cylinder engine mated with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission. Both the SE and SEL models had an available 3.0L V6 that boosted output to 221 hp. The Ford Fusion was the first production model from the manufacturer to offer the "new face of Ford" three-bar grille, which formed its iconic five bar design along with the two matching bars below the bumper and fascia.

All-wheel drive was made available on the V6 models in 2007. Other new additions consisted of:

  • Front seat side airbags
  • An auxiliary audio input jack
  • An anti-theft perimeter alarm

SiriusXM Satellite Radio was now optional on the SE and SEL models along with a DVD-based navigation system. In 2008, the Fusion was able to be equipped with the Ford SYNC Multimedia System, rear parking assist, and a navigation system with voice recognition. Two special packages were also offered for this model year: the Sport Appearance Package and the Moon and Tune Package.

The Hybrid

Unveiled for the 2010 model year, the Fusion Hybrid delivered an EPA estimated 41 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. The new model also boasted 700 miles on a single tank of gas in city driving conditions. The Fusion Hybrid was listed among the year's "Top 10 Green Cars" by the editors of Kelley Blue Book in 2009.

The Current Generation

The 2013 Fusion delivered outstanding fuel economy across four available trim levels: S, SE, SE Hybrid, and Titanium. The automaker made it a goal to give customers the "Power of Choice," offering five different powertrains. Two of those powertrain options were sustainable hybrid variants.

With the 2014 Ford Fusion, drivers have eight bold options to choose from. Even the base model Fusion S is loaded with amenities that drivers are sure to appreciate. Standard features include, but are not limited to:

  • Manual climate control
  • Message center with trip computer
  • MyKey
  • Tilt and telescoping steering wheel
