2015 Ford Explorer

The 2016 Ford Explorer features three available powertrains: a 3.5L V6 that makes 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque; a turbocharged 3.5L V6 that pumps out a commanding 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque; and a new EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3L inline-four that makes a capable 270 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Maximum fuel economy ratings come from the EcoBoost four-cylinder with up to an EPA-estimated 28 mpg highway and 18 mpg city, while either V6 engine tows up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.

In addition to new EcoBoost engine, this year's model features a wide range of updates in the form of a more fine-tuned suspension, a world-class cabin, and a Platinum trim level decked out with opulent standard features like blind-spot monitoring, a driver-assist automatic parallel and perpendicular parking system, inflatable seatbelts, and a dual-panel sunroof.



There are plenty of auto critics who have good things to say about the new Ford Explorer.

Future Models

Since the current Ford Explorer received a significant overhaul, don't expect radical changes for the 2017 model. However, it has been confirmed that it will receive the all-new Ford SYNC 3 touchscreen infotainment interface. This means easier access to all your favorite advanced features, from satellite radio and Bluetooth to navigation and text messaging. Other future models could eventually move to Ford's versatile CD6 platform.
