Looking for the perfect compact SUV for you and your family in the Arlington Heights and Schaumburg area? You might be trying to decide between the 2016 Ford Escape and the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. See which vehicle has all of the safety and convenience features you need for your family with this guide from Arlington Heights Ford.

The 2016 Ford Escape comes with a choice of three powerful engines. The 2.5L Duratec 4-cylinder engine uses intelligent variable cam shaft timing and sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection to deliver precise and steady power, producing 168 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. It uses a 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission to get up to 31 mpg highway. The 1.6L EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine uses twin intelligent variable cam shaft timing, or Ti-VCT, to produce 178 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. It also uses gasoline turbocharged direct fuel injection for a boost of power when you need it, while the EcoBoost technology means that you won't sacrifice fuel efficiency for speed. Choose between front-wheel drive or intelligent four-wheel drive that sends just the right amount of torque to each wheel individually to guarantee you a controlled ride with plenty of traction. This engine gets 32 mpg highway. Finally, the 2.0L 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine uses Ti-VCT and GTDI to produce an incredible 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque with a choice of front-wheel drive or intelligent 4-wheel drive, getting up to 30 mpg highway.

2016 Ford EscapeThe 2016 Chevrolet Equinox comes with a choice of only two engines. The 2.4L 4-cylinder uses spark ignited direct fuel injection, or SIDI, and a dual overhead cam shaft with variable valve timing, or VVT, to produce 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque, getting up to 32 mpg highway. You can also choose the 3.6L V6 engine, which uses SIDI technology and VVT to produce 301 hp and 272 lb-ft of torque, getting a mere 24 mpg highway. However, this enhanced engine is only available when you separately purchase the Convenience package, the Technology package, and the all-wheel drive system, making it a costlier and unwieldy choice than the Ford Escape's upgraded engines. Many drivers may not find the extra horsepower to be worth the expensive.
