Discover a Versatile Crossover in the Ford Edge

The crossover utility vehicle market has grown in leaps and bounds, and Ford has become a leader in this versatile segment. The popular Ford Edge crossover SUV made its debut in 2006 to a fair bit of fanfare from drivers and critics alike. Although the Edge may look a bit like the Ford Explorer, those similarities are merely cosmetic, as the crossover is built on the CD3 platform to offer a more car-like driving experience.

The Humble Beginnings

The first generation of this stylish crossover vehicle was revealed at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Production started that year on the 2007 model. With a front-end design bearing a three-bar chrome grille, the Edge started off with an aggressive look to match its name and offered drivers the choice of multiple trim levels.

The base model Ford Edge SE was outfitted with 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, single-zone manual air conditioning, and cloth seats. In 2008, the Limited trim replaced the previous SEL Plus model and gave drivers amenities like leather-trimmed seats, 18-inch premium chrome-clad aluminum wheels, SYNC in-car connectivity, and more. With the 2009 models, drivers also had the choice of a new Sport trim with larger diameter chrome exhaust tips, 60-40 fold-flat seats that recline, and a premium stereo system.

The Current Ford Edge

The first generation of the Ford Edge received a facelift for the 2011 model year, which is what you will see today on the 2014 model. Enhancements made throughout the vehicle include:

  • A new front fascia
  • A revised bumper
  • New wheels
  • Upgraded interior materials

Other selling points that the 2014 Ford Edge has to offer are its comfortable and quiet cabin, efficient base 3.5L V6 engine, anti-lock disc brakes, and 32 cubic feet of cargo space located behind the second row of seating.
