Design

2017 Ford F-150

The new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is built for style! The prominent haunches of this car give it a distinctive look with small bumpers on the front and the rear that help with departure and approach angles. The pinched-in rear end gives it a sport look, while the front skid plate and fender vents have evolved with sleeker and more contemporary designs.

Chassis

2017 Ford F-150

The new frame of the 2017 Raptor is based on the regular Ford F-150, but it's reinforced with boxed steel for a stronger, more rigid structure that will make for better handling and a more powerful chassis. However, the body is made from aluminum, with a hood and front fenders that sport a composite frame, so you'll get a vehicle that will be a whopping 500 pounds less than its predecessor, which weighed in at 6100 pounds. You'll be able to choose from two sizes: The roomy 145-inch SuperCrew cab, and the sleek, sporty SuperCab with a wheelbase of 133 inches.

Performance

2017 Ford F-150

The heavy iron V8 that graced the last Raptor is gone, replaced with a lighter engine. The 3.5L V6 is a second-generation EcoBoost engine with a direct fuel injection system and twin turbochargers. This engine has been influenced by the EcoBoost engines that Ford has been developing for its sports cars; you can feel the influence in the light aluminum block, as well as the updated and more powerful fuel system, cylinder heads, and other internals. The airflow has also been improved, with a true dual-exhaust system attached to the high-output engine, and twin notched outlets attached to the rear bumper. The engine will be more efficient than the last V8; the previous engine had 411 hp and 434 lb-feet of torque, while this engine will sport at least 450 hp. Ford will debut its 10-speed automatic transmission, along with its new four-wheel drive transfer case. You'll get a terrain mode system that can configure the truck's systems in order to optimize performance or the engine, stability control, drivetrain, and more in snow, rocks, mud, and other road conditions. The suspension has also been redesigned to be wider and more robust; there are large aluminum control arms in the front, as well as specially tuned springs on coils in the front and leaves in the back.
