Changes

2016 Mustang

The 2016 Ford Mustang sees some feature changes for the new model year. The previously optional MyFord Touch infotainment system is replaced by Ford's new Sync3 system with a simplified interface. The GT coupe and the EcoBoost trims will offer a black-painted roof, while new bundles are available, such as the attractively sophisticated Black Accent bundle, the California Special on the GT, and the Pony package for some razzle-dazzle. In addition, all GT models have standard secondary turn signals integrated in the hood vents.

Performance Specs

2016 Mustang

You'll get your choice of three engines on the 2016 Ford Mustang, all of which come with your choice of a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters or a six-speed manual transmission. The base engine is a 3.7L V6 engine, which produces 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. It returns an impressive 28 mpg highway with either transmission.

The EcoBoost's turbocharged 2.3L four-cylinder emphasizes fuel efficiency while also generating a robust 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. You'll get an incredible 32 mpg highway with the automatic transmission, an excellent figure for a muscle car. The lighter weight of this powertrain improves the Mustang's handling. Rounding out the engine offerings is a 5.0L V8 on the GT that puts out a dynamic 435 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, with fuel economy numbers hitting 25 mpg with either transmission.

Reviews

2016 Mustang

The 2016 Ford Mustang speaks for itself, but auto critics are raising their praise for its inspiring nature as well.

  • Edmunds: "...today's Mustang is a global product with enough refinement to make even premium brands take notice...At the same time, it retains the tire-smoking exuberance expected of an American performance icon."
  •
  • Car and Driver: "The iconic Mustang-with its classic pony-car looks and hunkered-down stance-preserves a legacy that defines American motoring...In either coupe or convertible form, the Mustang appeals without compromising its heritage. For 2015, the GT model made our 10Best list."
