2016 Ford Focus RS

The 2016 Ford Focus RS Introduced at the New York Auto Show

Ford fans in the Arlington Heights and Schaumburg area rejoiced on April 1st when the 2016 Ford Focus RS was unveiled at the New York Auto Show. This performance model for the popular Ford Focus hatchback has been produced at the Ford plant in Saarlouis, Germany, while it's been available in Europe for several years. It will debut in North America in early 2016.

The engine of the first 2016 Ford Focus RS will be a 2.3L four-cylinder with EcoBoost technology. It's turbocharged, takes gasoline, and is speculated to produce approximately 345 hp. However, Ford has not yet released information regarding output and performance for this engine.

The all-wheel drive system will be the first to feature Dynamic Torque Vectoring. This is a system which varies the side-to-side and front-to-rear torque distribution to adjust for the driving situation. Up to 70 percent of the torque used in driving can be sent to the rear axle, while all available torque can be diverted to each individual rear wheel. This improves the handling, as well as cornering stability. The Focus also has a stiffer suspension for sport handling and electric power-assisted steering that's been carefully tuned for performance.

The newly sculpted exterior of the 2016 Ford Focus RS is designed for aerodynamics. The front splitter has been reshaped, as well as the rear spoiler - both large and prominent features. The underbody has also been reshaped. These revamps give the 2016 RS model a six percent aerodynamic boost, while the drag coefficient has been lowered by nine percent to just 0.35.

The aesthetics of the exterior also look more aggressive and personable than before. The narrow tiger nose front features a dark see-through grille in the shape of a trapezoid, and the flared fender gives it a snarling, dynamic look. Along with the dark tires and bottom headlights, these features give the 2016 Ford Focus RS a sleek, muscular profile.

New and Updated Features

The 2016 Ford Focus RS features standard bi-xenon HID headlamps on each trim level. You'll also get 19-inch metal alloy wheels with a multi-spoke design, as well as round dual high-performance outlets for exhaust.

The interior has its share of great features, too. The seats are Recaro brand sport seats, with bolsters for steady comfort even during sharp corners. You'll also get a SYNC 3 infotainment center with an eight-inch touchscreen in high definition, mounted in the center of the dash. The SYNC 3 allows you to use voice commands to make hands-free calls and listen to your music in your car. You can also opt for the Sync with voice-activated navigation, as well as the Sync with MyFord information system and the option of a color touch screen and WiFi connectivity.
